Intro

We named our blog “Raising Mustard Seeds” after the famous parable in Matthew’s Gospel. We had some mustard seeds of our own laying dormant in our hearts, and finally, the year before our marriage, we began to let those seeds grow. Our journey with Christ hasn’t always been easy, but it has bore more fruit than we could possibly imagine. And through the mustard seeds He planted in our hearts, He opened them to receive little mustard seeds of our own…

While Jesus in this parable is talking about how faith and our relationship with God should grow from something very small to something mighty and powerful, it’s applicable to our children as well. It is our hope that through prayer and proper parenting, our children will grow from small and helpless (tiny mustard seeds) to being mighty in Christ, so that they will be shining lights in the world and people will come to “dwell in the branches” of their faith.

So, this is our little space in the big internet where we will share our most likely crazy experiences as we start our family and we hope those who are close to us will enjoy laughing at us and with us, and maybe even learn something new :)

Baby Prison Graduation + 3 Year Anniversary!!!

Oh you all know about our fondness of baby prison by now. We have these delightful "swaddleme" swaddles with velcro that keep Gianna snug as a bug at bed time. She is truly more calm when she's in "prison" and really likes it. Since she still has the startle reflex, it helps to keep her asleep at night when she's in and out of deep sleep.

She finally outgrew her "size 1" baby prisons a few weeks ago (they only go up to 14 lbs, and Gianna is tall and her legs were a bit crunched up inside and that tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicked her off), so I was happy to find "size 2" at a Target in League City when I was home visiting family.

I recently took pictures of her in her swaddle so that I could compare to earlier pictures and see how much she had grown. Yes, momma is gettin' all nostalgic already :-)

I thought I would share those pictures with you, too! (Yes, they're all bad quality and half too dark, as usual LOL)

January 2013:
 Gianna: WHAT IS THIS THING?!

 Gianna: Mmmmmmmmmmmm, cozy

Gianna: My parents have no idea what they're doing.
Parents: Nope, sure don't!

Gianna: (while dreaming) SEE?!?!?! Look at this mess of a swaddle! Good thing by the time I'm awake I will have pulled my arms and hands freeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Parents: If she would just be still.....we could...do...the...velcro right...maybe...?

Gianna: Despite how bad my parents' swaddle failures are, this thing is pretty glorious

 Gianna: Can't.....stay......awake.....with swaddle............ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Parents: Suckaaaaaaa

March 2013
 Gianna: Swaddles rock!

Gianna: Ummmmmm....this is getting a little tight...
Parents: Now we're swaddles pros and you can't escape!!! BWAHAHAHA

 April 2013
Gianna: Ummmmmm Mom and Dad? Notice the LACK OF LEG ROOM!
Parents: Dang! Her shoulders don't fit anymore either....guess it's time to go shopping...

Gianna: NEW SWADDLES FTW!!!
Parents: NEW SWADDLES FTW!!!

And in other awesome news....today is our 3 year anniversary!!! Never in our wildest dreams did we picture ourselves with a little baby in 3 years, but God worked wonders in our hearts and now we wonder why we waited so long!!! April 9, 2010 was a pretty glorious day :-)

    1. Thanks!!! Our wedding day was seriously the only photogenic day of our lives.

I also just remembered that we have a better camera than our iPhone so I'm excited to have more focused/decently lit, cute chubby faced pictures soon! Unfortunately it's hard to catch one without her drooling all over herself these days...
